Feinstein pushes ICE to seek the advice of ‘qualified specialists,’ rethink revised detention criteria

In a Friday letter tackled to Matthew Albence, performing director of ICE, the California senator condemned ICE for its “recently issued” revised detention criteria, saying they “weaken the quality of care for immigrants in ICE custody.” Feinstein posted the letter to Twitter Tuesday early morning. 

“Given the quantity of deaths in ICE custody and reviews of inadequate ailments in ICE facilities, detention expectations must make improvements to,” she tweeted. “ICE demands to consult with health care and psychological health and fitness authorities, congressional committees and advocates just before finalizing their detention expectations.”

The California senator cited the number of fatalities in ICE custody and bad disorders in services as motives for enhancements. 

Feinstein also stated that the new criteria allow ICE to use “‘hog-tying, fetal restraints, [and] limited restraints,’” get rid of “basic necessities” and allow ICE “more discretion” to set migrants in solitary confinement.
